Principal’s Welcome

Welcome Parents and Students,

I am blessed to have been selected to be the new principal of St. Francis-St. Hedwig School. I am looking forward to working with you and your children during this exciting new school year and in the years to come.

My entire educational career has been in Catholic education. I have served as the principal of several Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford, as an assistant superintendent in the Diocese of Bridgeport and as an instructor at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.

I earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Long Island University, a Masters degree in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticut State University as well as my doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Hartford.

When you enter our school, you are surrounded by a dedicated and committed faculty and staff as well as respectful, hardworking and talented students. Three of our teachers were recently recognized by the Archdiocese of Hartford for their years of service in Catholic education. Our Catholic faith is the center of all that we do and say. You will find our school to be a blend of a rich, traditional Catholic education in a progressive academic environment filled with opportunities to excel for all of our students.

St. Francis-St. Hedwig School serves as the educational ministry of St. Francis of Assisi parish. As active participants in the life of the parish, we infuse our faith into everything that we do at the school. Our school family has many opportunities for our staff and students to participate in the Liturgy each month and on special days throughout the year.

Several of our graduates have been named class valedictorians at local high schools throughout the years. Upon graduation from St. Francis-St. Hedwig School, our students pursue rigorous secondary programs of study.

We have an active Home and School Association which is a venue for parental participation in the life of our school community. Many events are planned each year for our students and families.

If you are seeking a quality, values based school for your child(ren), I encourage you to visit us.
Please contact the school office at 203-729-2247 to set up a time to come by! I am confident that you will witness our warm and welcoming environment through our students and dedicated staff. Together, we strive each day to serve as we are Growing Together in Faith and Knowledge!

I look forward to working with our students and parents, both returning and new, during this exciting new school year.

In Christ,

Dr. John R. Alfone, Ed.D.
